CPI warns PM against curbs on gold
Hyderabad: The Communist Party of India (CPI) has warned Prime Minister Narendra Modi to face serious repercussions in case the latter touches ‘gold’.
CPI and Telangana Mahila Samakya (NFIW) activists have staged a dharna at Income Tax Office in Basheerbagh here on Monday demanding the withdrawal of proposed income tax law amendments and restrictions imposed on poor and middle class women in regarding to gold ornaments. Later they submitted a memorandum to the Income Tax Department Commissioner.
CPI city secretary ET Narasimha said that the poor and middle class people were facing a lot of troubles due to the sudden decision of demonetization of big notes. He opined that the cashless economy was not possible in the country as most of the people living in rural areas were not educated. CPI executive member VS Bose alleged that Modi was extending his support to the corporate companies leaving the poor and middle class people in the lurch.
Telangana Mahila Samakya state president P Prem Pavani and S Chayadevi demanded the Centre to withdraw the restrictions imposed on gold. -NSS
