CPI Threatens To Storm Pragati Bhavan: Arrest Of Leaders
Hyderabad: State CPI executive members Mallepalli Adireddy, Pasya Padma and N Balamallesh on Sunday severely condemned the arrests of leaders of Left parties and people’s organisations while they were peacefully protesting against lifting of Dharna Chowk from Indira Park.
In a press note here on Sunday, the CPI leaders stated that the government’s illogical action in lifting of Dharna Chowk from Indira Park, where aggrieved people were staging protests for a long time to draw the attention of the State government towards their burning problems, was totally undemocratic and feudal.
Stating that the country’s Constitution has accorded a right to people to express their protest in a democratic manner, they said the KCR government’s action in lifting away the Dharna Chowk amounted to grave attack on people’s rights.
Alleging that the activists of Left parties, voluntary organisations and passersby were thrashed and arrested by police personnel indiscriminately while they took out a 2k run from the Sundaraiah Park protesting against lifting of Dharna Chowk, the CPI leaders warned that they would storm the Chief Minister’s residence Pragati Bhavan if KCR failed to mend his dictatorial style of functioning. They also warned that they would intensify the agitation if the arrested activists were not released immediately. (NSS)
