CPI condemns Sakshi Maharaj’s outburst against Muslims
New Delhi: The Communist Party of India has severely condemned the vituperative outburst against Muslims by a BJP Member of Parliament.
In a statement here on Thursday, CPI Central Secretariat noted with strong indignation and severe contempt the statement of BJP’s controversial MP Sakshi Maharaj, that those with four wives, 40 children and three talaaqs are responsible for the increase in population.
“The same is a poisonously communal and baseless one meant to provoke the minority community so that an artificial consolidation of the majority community votes can be made. The Central Election Commission issued a notice to Sakshi Maharaj and he back-tracked and claimed that the media had distorted it. How can the entire media do so? He also explained that he did not mention any religion by name. He neither has the guts to own his statement nor the honesty to retrace it when caught. Even the facts and the National Census data prove that he is wrong,” the Central secretariat stated.
“Sakshi Maharaj wants to create a fear in the minds of the minority community with such a provocative and anti-Constitutional statement on Muslim population growth. The party appeals to both the communities to be vigilant and not get provoked. The BJP cannot escape its responsibility by distancing from Sakshi Maharaj’s statement without condemning it. This is an indirect way of supporting his statement. The CPI condemns the malicious propaganda against the minority community by the BJP. The Election Commission should suo moto act and ban Sakshi Maharaj from participating in the poll campaign under the guidelines of the People’s Representation Act and the earlier verdicts of the Apex Court”, the statement added. –NSS
