Court moved to know Jaya’s health status
The health of AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa is not only the concern of millions of her followers across Tamil Nadu but also to all political parties in her native state and the country. Ever since she was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai on September 22, there has been a virtual news blackout on her health condition. Skimpy details emerging from her party or close aides don’t reveal anything to satisfy Amma’s diehard fans nor the curiosity of her opponents. Thus Puratchi Thalaivi ‘s health status has become a matter of speculation, triggering bizarre rumours in the social media.
Why has not the Tamil Nadu government or her party issued a clarification on the Chief Minister is anyone’s guess. The secrecy surrounding her health is reminiscent of conditions prevailing in countries behind Iron Curtain. Now, a social activist, Traffic Ramaswamy, wants to put an end to the endless speculation. On Tuesday, he sought the intervention of Madras High Court and prayed for hearing the case urgently pleading Jayalalithaa’s actual health status was of utmost importance.
However, the TN government’s lawyer did not think so since “Apollo is issuing daily health bulletins”. Without rejecting the activist’s plea, the Madras High Court had asked the lawyer to come back after consulting the government. Will it clarify Jaya’s condition at least now?
Meanwhile, a bulletin issued by Apollo on Monday said the health of the Chief Minister ‘continues to improve’. The fact that specialist from London has been flown in to monitor the CM’s condition has given more gist to the rumour mill.
