Congress Not To Attend GST Launch Meet

The Congress party which has been mulling over whether to attend the launch celebration of Goods and Services Tax (GST) on Friday has decided not to attend it.

New Delhi: The Congress finally decided not to attend the Goods and Services Tax (GST) launch celebrations which will be held on Friday in the Parliament. According to party leader Satyavrat Chaturvedi, revealing the news said “the Congress will not attend the special GST meeting on GST implementation.”

On Wednesday, it was reported that Congress president would meet former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday to decide whether to take part or not.

Meanwhile, Manmohan Singh was invited as a special guest- which meant he would share the dais with President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is a catch -22 situation for Congress.

Trinamool Congress chief and Chief Minister of West Bengal and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) have already announced that they would not be attending the event. The DMK leaders felt that it was just another important legislation and there is no need to show off.

The Nationalist Congress Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Samajwadi Party and Rashtriya Janata Dal have called meetings of their respective party leaders on Thursday, to finalise their strategies.
