Congress Burns Amit Shah Effigy For SCS

Congress leaders have held a protest march and set the effigy of BJP chief Amit Shah on fire holding him responsible for not giving the special category status to the State. The Congress leaders raised slogans against BJP, Amit Shah and PM Modi as Shah was enjoying his lunch at CM Naidu’s residence.

Amaravati: Members of the Andhra Pradesh Congress led by its Mahila Congress president Sunkara Padmasri held a protest march against the visit of BJP chief Amit Shah to the city. They raised slogans against Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and asked Shah to go back.

The Congress leaders criticised the BJP leadership for going back on the promise of giving special category status to the State. The leaders said that the BJP MPs Arun Jaitely and Venkaiah Naidu have asked for 10 years of special category status to the state when the Bifurcation Bill was passed in Rajya Sabha. The BJP leaders have also promised to give 10 years of special category status to the State during the 2014 election campaign and have included the promise in their manifesto. A promise was made by the BJP and its then Prime Minister candidate Narendra Modi at Tirupathi. However, after winning the elections, the BJP had gone back on the promise, Padmasri alleged.

The Mahila Congress leader also blamed TDP president and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for compromising with the BJP on the special category status.  She recalled that Chandrababu Naidu had asked the special category status for 15 years even as the BJP promised it for 10 years. Later, after the elections, Chandrababu Naidu had passed two resolutions in the Assembly seeking special category status to the State, she recalled. However, as the BJP refused to give it, the TDP had compromised, she alleged.

She also took strong exception to Chandrababu Naidu hosting lunch for the BJP chief and accused the BJP-TDP leaders of enjoying delicious food as people of the State were starving. She said that both the TDP and the BJP have failed to come to the rescue of the people who were facing problems like severe drought and unemployment. The Special Category Status would have given scope of creating employment opportunities while the backward districts fund, which was part of the Reorganisation Act would have helped in mitigating the prevailing drought, Padmasri said and wondered how the two leaders were enjoying the lunch at the cost of the people.

The Mahila Congress leader led the party workers to set the effigy of Amti Shah on fire in protest against the BJP-TDP failures.
