Civic body plans to clean all nalas throughout the year
Hyderabad: Following directions from Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao and GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, the GHMC has prepared plans for cleaning of nalas throughout the year.
In a press note here on Saturday, the GHMC Commissioner said tenders worth Rs 30.18 crores were invited for cleaning of 951-km-long major nalas, drains, small nalas and pipe drains cleaning thoughout the year. The major part of the tender process was completed, he said. According to him, 449,111 cubic meters of waste will be cleared from major nalas. At the same time, the GHMC will take up cleaning of waste in minor drains, pipe drains. The nala waste will be shifted to nearby dumping yards or used as landfill. The GHMC wants to complete nalas cleaning work by the end of May, he said.
The GHMC Commissioner said that the works will be launched within three days. Machines will be used to clean the major nalas. Jetting machines will be used to clear the storm water drains and where it was not possible to clean the drains with machines it would be done manually, he said.
100 more Rs 5 meal centers in city
Meanwhile, Mayor Rammohan announced that the GHMC has decided to feed 50,000 poor people in the city every day through the Rs 5 a meal scheme. Inaugurating a Rs 5 meal scheme at Uppal Bus stage in Secunderabad along with MP Ch Malla Reddy on Saturday, the mayor said apart from the existing 50 meal centers, the Corporation would open another 100 Rs 5 meal centers in phases in the city. For this, the GHMC would be spending some Rs 30 crores every year. -NSS
