Chiranjeevi Demands Naidu Tender Resignation Over Stampede Deaths
- Raghuveera Reddy blames Naidu for the deaths
HYDERABAD: Expressing shock and grief over stampede deaths at a pushkarghat in Rajahmundry on Tuesday, Rajya Sabha member and Congress leader Chiranjeevi has demanded that Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu tender resignation owning responsibility to the loss of 27 lives and injuries to scores of pilgrims there.
Speaking to the media at Indira Bhavan here on Tuesday along with APCC Chief Raghuveera Reddy and others, Chiranjeevi demanded that the chief minister extend 25-lakh rupees ex gratia to the kin of each deceased.
Describing the incident as a very unfortunate one, he alleged that the incident was a result of inefficiency and failure of the government. Pulling up the chief minister, who campaigned for the last six months about the Pushkaralu in a big way, he asked Naidu as what he has done for this.
Recalling Naidu’s words that one has to feel proud of Pushkaralu and should be conducted on par with Maha Kumbh Mela, Chiranjeevi said unfortunately a heart-rending incident took place in Rajahmudry. Asking Naidu to introspect on the incident, he said even at Kumbh Mela an incident like that occurred in Rajahmundry did not take place any time.
Chiranjeevi alleged that Naidu made a big issue when one or two people died during Krishna Pushkaralu during Rajashekar Reddy’s regime in the past.
“At that time, Naidu had demanded that then Chief Minister Rajasekhara Reddy tender his resignation. What Naidu will do now?” he asked. (NSS)
