Chandrababu warns rapists of heavy punishment
HYDERABAD: AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has issued a stern warning that those who committed heinous crimes against women would be given stringent punishment.
Participating in a debate in the Legislature on Monday, the Chief Minister made it clear that his government would not tolerate crimes against women. Condemning the recent incident of gang rape in Chittoor district, the Chief Minister said he had asked Superintendent of Police to file a case against the culprits under Nirbhaya Act and arrest them within 30 days. He said he was monitoring the case.
During question hour, YSRC member Narayana Swamy accused the government of failing to arresting persons involved in the gang rape and murder of a woman in Chittoor district last week. He alleged that the Chief Minister was trying to put a lid over the incident by paying Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased.
He contended that since the victim was a Dalit the government was trying to ignore the gory crime by paying compensation as if Dalits were beggars.
Minister for Women’s Development and Child Welfare Peethala Sujatha reacted strongly to the member’s remarks the Dalit community and womenfolk. She demanded that Swamy withdraw his word “beggar” from his speech as the word was an insult to the community. (NSS)
