Chalo Amaravathi Padayatra Foiled; Re-Launch When Permission Granted
Kirlampudi: A major rally was taken out in Simhadripuram in support of Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham’s Chalo Amaravathi Padayatra on Wednesday, even as the leader himself was forced to remain under house arrest.
As a result, activists raised slogans against the police and AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. More details are awaited.
When the Kapu movement leader started from his home on the padayatra on Wednesday morning, he was stopped by the police. OSD Ravi Shankar informed Mudragada that there was no permission for his padayatra and he will be under house arrest for 24 hours.
The house arrest came despite the Kapu leader getting into an argument with the police and informing that the padayatra will be peaceful and in a Gandhian way. Police, with folded hands, requested him to cooperate.
With this, Mudragada announced that they will re-launch the padayatra whenever the police grant them permission.
Meanwhile, the residence of the Kapu leader remained cordoned off by central forces and special police. All measures are in force to disallow outsiders from entering into Kirlampudi.
Many Kapu leaders are under house arrest. Nearly seven thousand policemen have cordoned off the entire East Godavari District. Around 95 check posts and 116 pickets are keeping a vigil across the district, even as extensive patrolling is on in both Godavari districts, apart from Krishna and Guntur districts.
