Centre Announces Rs 5,000 Support Price To Help Mirchi Farmers
New Delhi: Responding to the plight of Mirchi farmers in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh announced Rs 5,000 support price per quintal.
Singh also assured that Mirchi would be purchased through market intervention schemes in both the Telugu States. The purchases will be done through State government agencies till May 31, he said. However, it will be the State Government, which will decide where to establish purchase centers, he said.
Apart from Rs 5,000 per quintal Mirchi, additional Rs 1,500 will be paid for the expenses, the minister said. In case of any loss to the Mirchi purchased by the agencies the expenditure must be borne by both the Centre and State Governments on 50:50 bases, he said.
The Mirchi farmers in both the Telugu states were protesting for a just price for their produce. YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy even observed ‘Rythu Deeksha’ to bring the plight of farmers to the notice of State and Central Governments, while in Telangana the farmers have gone to the extent of burning their produce. Union Minister Venkayya Naidu took these developments to the notice of agricultural minister, who immediately responded.
