CDSCO releases list of substandard medicines

New Delhi: Sixty medicines including generally used Combiflam and D-Cold Total were declared as of substandard quality after carrying out tests by the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization, (CDSCO) said a report. CDSCO regulates the sales and distribution for drugs in India.

After carrying out tests a month ago, the CDSCO found that they failed various quality tests.

Quoting reasons like ‘Description and particulate matter,’ dissolution, misbranded and disintegration etc., all the common drugs are labelled ‘Not of Standard Quality.” Some of the names are repeated in the list, as they found issues in different batches of the same medicine.

The fresh list released this year includes painkillers, anti-allergy medicines, fever, cold, loose motion, constipation as well as calcium and iron supplements. Interestingly, some of these medicines are manufactured by big brands- Cipla, Cadila, Sanofi.

The 60 drugs that fall into ‘substandard. list are:
