CBI Takes Lalu’s Close Aide Shahabuddin Into Custody
New Delhi: A close aide of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, a four-time MP from Siwan, Shahabuddin was taken into custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday in connection with an investigation into murder of journalist Rajdeo Ranjan.
The CBI which has been investigating the murder case of Rajdeo Ranjan last week moved an application seeking court’s permission to interrogate Shahabuddin. It told a Muzaffarpur court that since his name came up as an accused in the case, it needs his custodial interrogation. The court granted permission to the CBI.
Sources in the CBI said that Shahabuddin was brought to the agency headquarter for questioning. A former MP from Siwan, Shahabuddin is facing trial in more than 45 criminal cases and was moved to Tihar Jail in February this year on a Supreme Court (SC) order on a plea by Siwan native Chandrakeshwar Prasad, whose three sons were killed. There are allegations that he is involved in the murder of journalist from Siwan.
The bureau chief of Hindi daily,’Hindustan,’ Rajdeo Ranjan was shot from close range by bike-borne assailants on May 13 last year. His wife accused Shahabuddin had a role in the killing.
