Campaign In The UP Last Phase Ends, 40 Seats At Stake
Varanasi: It is curtains for the election campaign in the last leg of eight phase polling. It is a very prestigious contest for Prime Minister Narendra Modi since it is his home turf. The Samajwadi-Congress has claimed that they made the PM sweat for three days.
Modi, Akhilesh and Rahul held rallies in Varanasi on Monday. The crowds in SP-Congress rally were definitely more than that of BJP. However, it is no indication of the direction in which the wind is blowing. There 40 seats at stake in the 8th phase where polling is scheduled to take place on the 8th. The counting is slated for the 11th.
The biggest battle of 2017 came to an in a most colourful way with boats carrying party workers with flags. The Ganga Cruise was the Election special. Varanasi has become the modern the modern Kurukshetra. Much is at stake for every political party. ‘Har Har Modi’ reverberated Kasi. Modi did not leave any stones unturned. About 30 central ministers camped in Kasi for a week. He went to temples. He participated in the prayers for late PM Lal Bahadur Sastry. Akhilesh and Rahul exhibited youth energy in the rallies. Mayawati, BSP chief, had high hopes on this phase. Former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav also joined the campaign on the last day. Leaders of both the national parties, BJP and the SP, from all have the country have descended on the holy city.
