Call to issue Rupay cards to all Account holders
Hyderabad: Sandeep Kumar Sultania, Chairman, Task Force Committee on Demonetisation, has directed the bankers to issue at the earliest the Rupay cards to all account holders as “note ban” decision by the Centre has necessitated alternative steps to encourage cashless transactions in the state.
At the first meeting with the lead bankers and officials at the Secretariat here on Thursday, he said that Rupay cards already issued among the account holders should be activated avoiding delay. SBI General Manager, Giridhar Kini, Andhra Bank DGM MV Ramanaiah, RBI AGM, KB Subramanyam, SLBC AGM, JB Subramanyam, Chief Post Master General B Chandrasekhar, Finance Joint Secretary Sai Prasad were present. The meeting decided to appoint 21 coordinators for districts for the implementation of cashless transactions using these cards.
He stressed the need for encouraging Rupay cards, debit cards and businessmen use swiping machines for cashless transactions. He also said that bank accounts which are not in use for some time should be brought to use and asked the bankers to mail pin numbers to Rupay card holders and ensure that these cards are increased manifold through Aadhaar linkage.
Sandip instructed the officials to submit prepaid cards, supply POS machines to places without POM machines for cashless transactions. He suggested to RBI officials to allot Rs 100 crores to post offices, make arrangements for timely payment of pensions to Asara pensioners and wages to workers, coolies and farmers by proper release of funds. He asked the bankers to submit digital transactions taken place across the state after the demonetization decision was announced by the Centre on November 8. -NSS
