Budding journalists urged to think out of box
- J-Hub to help students hone their skills
Hyderabad: Senior journalist Prof K Nageshwar on Saturday exhorted students to think beyond the realm of possibilities while writing news stories and stated that the J-Hub was an opportunity to publish articles in print and on web platforms.
Addressing candidates at the orientation session of the J-Hub in the Department of Communication & Journalism, at Osmania University, Prof Nageshwar explained the modalities of working in the J-Hub. He said it is a platform for students to hone their skills and make a career. Dispelling the notion that journalism as a profession pays meager salaries, he pointed out that candidates with right skills are always well paid. Compensation increases as fresh graduates gain experience, he observed.
On the advantages of being a journalist, Prof Nageshwar said, journalism offers immense challenges and job satisfaction. “Good journalists get connected to masses and earn fame,” he stated and added that the J-Hub will be completely practical-oriented and candidates would be taken through the entire news writing process from idea to publication. Weekly review sessions will be held on every Saturday from 10am in the Department, he said.
Prof K Stevenson, Head, Department of Communication & Journalism, highlighted the initiatives, including a TV studio and news lab, in the Department. It also launched its You Tube channel, Osmania Journalism, a separate website for J-Hub (J hub.in) to upload news items filed by candidates.
