Boost to handloom industry
- Govt staff to wear handloom clothes one day in a week
Hyderabad: To give a fillip to textiles industry and promote its handloom clothes among departments in a big way through “Chenetha Lakshmi,” the State Government has launched “One Day Handloom in Week” programme. As part of it, the Textiles Ministry has decided to encourage staff and employees to wear handloom clothes one day in a week.
Textiles Minister KT Rama Rao handed over a bag of textiles clothes manufactured by Tesco to Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Assembly Chambers on Tuesday. KTR also handed over the same clothes to Speaker S Madhusudan Chary, Chairman Swamy Goud, deputy chief ministers, ministers and Congress leader Shabbi Ali. He appealed to them to see that their staff wears the handloom clothes to encourage the handloom industry and enable the workers involved get better revenues.
KCR appreciated the programme and asked the ministers to go ahead with the plan. KTR said that he has asked municipal, mining and industries departments’ staff to wear handloom clothes once in a week. We have taken up various programmes to promote handloom clothes and it is time for the ministers to extend support. Tesco website is to promote the handloom clothes business and we have a plan to take support of Amazon and Flipkart for online promotion, he said. –NSS
