BMW partners with TVS to make 313cc motor bikes for India, export
Chennai: German auto giant BMW has decided to manufacture its smallest capacity engine motorcycle in partnership with TVS Group. The 313CC motor bike will be exported to Germany, US and Europe. The BMW G310R will be sold under the famed ‘Motorrad’ brand.
Frank Schloeder, president, BMW India, said that they have big expectations from the G310R and there have been a lot going on behind the scenes.
Currently, the company is working on the retail and distribution details in India and the G310R is expected to hit the market early next year.
The bike will be produced at the TVS Motors Hosur plant in Tamil Nadu and the Indian partner will roll out the local version of the G310R.
While the BMW G310R was engineered and designed by BMW Motorrad at Munich in Germany, TVS Motors will produce it. The Indian company will offer BMW its knowledge of prudent engineering and value-efficient component sourcing to keep the production cost-effective.
The new motorcycle is paired with a 6-speed gearbox producing 34bhp of power and 28Nm of peak torque. The G310R is expected to hit a top speed of 144 kmph and will have ABS as a standard fitment.
According to BMW, G310R is designed not just for tricky, narrow city lanes, but even for long-distance travel.
