BJP-TDP Leadership Closes Talk On Tie-Up Till 2019
Amaravati: The big talk about the break-up in the alliance between the ruling Telugu Desam Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party in Andhra Pradesh which had generated the heat over the last two months, is now closed. The leadership of the two parties had instructed the rank and file to stop talking about the alliance till further notice. The top leadership of the allies had decided to keep the issue aside till the 2019, the election year.
A section of the leaders from the two parties are unhappy with the alliance and wants it to be dropped immediately. The BJP and the TDP leaders see adverse impact on both the parties if the alliance continued. While the TDP leaders fear drop in the party’s base at the grassroots with the BJP’s plans for expansion, the BJP sees the alliance as hurdle for its expansion. The BJP sees a steep fall in the popularity graph of the TDP that would also have adverse impact on the BJP vote base.
Though the talk about the alliance is temporarily kept aside, the TDP leaders at the grassroots are feeling the heat with the BJP expanding its base by taking new members at the booth level. The fact is that most of the new members joining the BJP at the booth level are from the TDP, which is seen as a great loss to the TDP. It is for this reason that the TDP leaders are uncomfortable with the BJP’s expansion drive.
It has now to be seen how the two parties handle the issues at the booth level as TDP suffers erosion of its base while the BJP grows stronger in its membership drive.
