BJP Starts Groundwork To Capture Power In Telangana
Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party wants to emerge as an alternative political force in Telangana State, notwithstanding ruling TRS extending support to BJP-led National Democratic Alliance at the Centre on crucial issues, like note ban, GST and election of the President and Vice-President.
The party’s effort in this direction is part of the BJP’s plan to expand its footprint all across South India. BJP has already come to power in Karnataka, though it might be currently out of power in that State.
Acquiring power in Telangana is the next best bet in South for the ruling party at the Centre, what with the State having just 119 seats. Elections are just less than two years away. State leadership of BJP feels it can make the push for power in Telangana, as a three-way split in votes will favour the saffron party, the other two parties being Congress and TRS. If the fourth power in Telangana, Telugu Desam Party, manages to get some seats in the general elections, it will only benefit the BJP.
TDP, the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh, is already allied with BJP, both at the Central and State levels.
Aiming to strengthen the party at grassroots level, BJP has already deployed “full-timers” in 74 of the 119 Assembly constituencies of Telangana. Similar appointments for rest of the constituencies will be made soon.
The saffron party feels that the tour of Telangana by its National Party President Amit Shah has brought substantial benefits for the party. As a result, Amit Shah will be making another visit come September.
The subject of BJP bidding for power in Telangana is expected to come under high focus at the party’s executive meeting in Warangal from Saturday. The future course of action will be decided accordingly.
Meanwhile, Telangana BJP President K Laxman said that people of Telangana had high hopes from the TRS Government, which have only being belied. The government has been unable to fulfil promises it made to the common man.
Pointing out that people have also lost faith in Congress due to its corrupt and dynastic politics, Laxman asserted that BJP is keen to emerge as a political alternative in the State. People want dynamic performance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Centre in Telangana too.
The State BJP President maintained that BJP-ruled States have corruption-free, transparent governments and people of Telangana too were aspiring for such type of governance.
Union Ministers Hansraj Ahir and Bandaru Dattatreya, and BJP General Secretaries Ram Madhav and Muralidhar Rao are among several leaders who will be attending the executive meet in Warangal.
