BJP leaders from AP meet Modi, Shaw
New Delhi: Leaders of the AP unit of the BJP met Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Saturday and thanked him for the package the government had announced for their State. AP had observed bandh today in response to a call given by Opposition leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in wake of the government decision not to give special status. The Congress and the Left parties had supported the bandh.
The PM had asked Andhra Pradesh leaders to work for the development of their State promising that the Centre would stand by them. The AP leaders of the BJP earlier met the party national president Amit Shah and urged him to address rallies in their State. They made similar request to the prime minister.
The leaders who felt that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu had discussed the details of the package with the TDP leaders but did not consult them. There is a possibility that the people back home might think that the AP leaders of the party have been deliberately kept out of the talks.
The PMO gave a short tweet saying that Modi had a meeting with the Andhra leaders of the BJP. A total of Rs 22, 113 crore would be given to AP as a grant to cover the revenue deficit from 2014 to 2020.
