BJP Gives Dressing Down For TDP On Modi-Jagan Meet
Amaravati: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Andhra Pradesh stood united in countering the criticism of its ally – Telugu Desam Party (TDP) – on Prime Minister Narendra Modi meeting YSR Congress president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. The BJP leaders justified the meeting between the two leaders and took strong exception to the TDP leaders finding fault with the meet.
The TDP leaders, including Ministers Somireddi Chandramohan Reddy, Devineni Umamaheswara Rao, K Atchennaidu, were the first to react to Modi-Jagan meeting and alleged that the meeting was aimed at getting clearances from the CBI cases pending against the YSR Congress chief. The Ministers, in an attempt to hit at the Opposition leader, went to the extent of commenting that the meeting was aimed at giving relief to Jagan from the cases which in other words, suggests that Modi’s government is in favour of dropping cases against Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The BJP AP incharge and Uttar Pradesh Minister for Health, Siddharthanath Singh, who worked with the TDP leaders during the last election took strong exception to the TDP leaders’ comments on the meeting between the two leaders. He sought to advise the TDP leaders to restrain from making such comments as both Modi and Jagan were elected representatives. “There is nothing wrong in PM meeting leader of a party, that too Opposition leader from a State. It does not mean that the Prime Minister would go out of the way to help that leader,” was what Siddharthanath Singh shot the TDP leaders.
BJP floor leader in Assembly, Vishnukumar Raju, pooh-poohed the TDP leaders’ criticism. He said that the TDP leaders were indulging in such baseless criticism. “When Minister Atchennaidu said that Jagan Mohan Reddy had looted Rs 1 lakh crore, I have asked him to prove it. He said he had no evidences. Then I have suggested to him not to make such baseless comments,” he recalled. He further said that Atchennaidu or the other leaders should reveal facts if they have information on the meeting between Modi and Jagan. “Did Modi tell him about the assurances given to Jagan on the cases? Who told him that both Modi and Jagan discussed about the CBI cases?,” he asked and wanted the Minister to clarify on that.
The firebrand BJP leader and MLC Somu Veerraju and former Union Minister D Purandheswari, besides others, expressed similar strong views against the TDP leaders for their unwarranted comments on the Modi-Jagan meeting. They justified the meeting and wondered whether the TDP leaders were trying to point an accusing finger at Modi by linking him with the Jagan’s cases. The BJP leaders sought to advise the TDP leaders to restrain from making baseless comments on Modi as such an attempt would create gap between the two parties.
