Belligerent Move By China Over Arunachal Pradesh
New Delhi: The state-run Xianhua news agency announced that ‘the places are part of China’. This move is in response to India’s recent official welcome to spiritual head Dalai Lama to the border state- which pricked the communist nation. China has strongly protested it and the relations have taken a dive since then.
“China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs announced on April 14 that it had “standardized” in Chinese characters, Tibetan and Roman alphabet the names of six places in ‘South Tibet’, which India calls ‘Arunachal Pradesh’, in accordance with the regulations of the central government, The official names of the six places using the Roman alphabet are Wo’gyainling, Mila Ri, Qoid ngarbo Ri, Mainquka, B mo La and Namkapub Ri”, state-run Global Times reported today.
India expected some diplomatic offensive from China since the Marxist country has strongly warned India that any official status to Dalai Lama’s visit will be met with retaliatory consequences and it will do everything to protect territorial sovereignty.
China has been claiming south of Tibet as its soil and argued that India has abruptly named it Arunachal Pradesh. According to researchers from China and Tibet these names have existed since ancient times, but had never been standardised before. Announcing the names is like a remediation, they stated.
The India-China border dispute covers the 3,488 km-long Line of Actual Control (LAC). While China claims Arunachal Pradesh as South Tibet, India asserts that the dispute covers Aksai Chin area which was occupied by China during the 1962 war. The two sides have so far held 19 rounds of talks with Special Representatives to resolve the boundary dispute but of no avail. India asserts that Arunachal Pradesh is an inseparable part of India.
