Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly paid rich tributes to late Bhuma Nagi Reddy on Tuesday. The ruling Telugu Desam Party and its ally-Bharatiya Janata Party recalled the services of Nagi Reddy and conveyed sympathies to the family members. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu introduced the condolence motion which was later passed by the Assembly.

However, the Opposition, YSR Congress stayed away when the Assembly met to condole the death of its member Nagi Reddy. Leader of Opposition Y S Jaganmohan Reddy while justifying his party’s absence from the Assembly, held the ruling TDP responsible for the death of Nagi Reddy. He alleged that the TDP had promised cabinet berth to the defectors, particularly Nagi Reddy and had been delaying it leading to psychological pressure on the deceased legislator. “Chandrababu Naidu and his TDP are responsible for the stress that Nagi Reddy had suffered and finally lost his life. It was under similar pressure that N T Rama Rao also died. Chandrababu Naidu can put such a pressure on the leaders for his survival. Now, I can’t be part of same Chandrababu Naidu paying tributes to the departed leader,” Jaganmohan Reddy quipped.

He recalled how the YSR Congress had paid its respects to late Sobha Nagi Reddy who died in the midst of 2014 elections. He said that the YSR Congress had stopped the election campaign for two days in honour of the leader and said that the YSR Congress respected the leaders and honoured them unlike Chandrababu Naidu who uses the leaders for his survival.

The YSR Congress legislators alleged that Nagi Reddy had suffered cardiac arrest only after a meeting with Chandrababu Naidu on the previous day who had mounted pressure on the legislator regarding the MLC elections. “Nagi Reddy was under pressure from Chandrababu Naidu about the elections and also on the promise made to him for inclusion in the cabinet, which is the reason for the heart attack,” the leaders said.

Meanwhile, Chandrababu Naidu took strong objection to the absence of YSR Congress in the Assembly to pay respects to the department legislator. He said that the YSR Congress had tried to politicize the death of a member. He further said that the attitude of the Opposition showed the party and its leaders political immaturity.

The BJP too expressed its displeasure over the absence of the YSR Congress in the Assembly and said that the YSR Congress, keeping politics aside, should have attended the proceedings and paid tributes in the House.
