- Governor expresses optimism at RD celebrations

Vijayawada, January 26: Governor ESL Narsimhan on Monday participated in the first-ever Republic Day celebrations in the residuary Andhra Pradesh State. The Governor unfurled the tricolor in the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium here.
Speaking as the chief guest, the Governor greeted the people on the occasion and said he was very happy to unfurl national tricolour in the native place of Pingali Venkaiah, who had designed the flag. Narsimhan got emotional while saying that Andhra Pradesh is motherland of many Mahatmas. He also observed that taking birth in Andhra soil and speaking Telugu is a great fortune
He exuded confidence that the State would recover the lost ground and move on a trajectory of growth and development. Listing out various initiatives of the government during the last seven months, he said this yielded good results as the State registered an impressive growth rate of 6.9 percent in the first half of the current financial year. The Governor said that the TDP government was striving to build an ideal capital and sparing no efforts to develop the State with seven missions, five grids, three mega cities, 13 smart cities. He also talked about e-governance in all departments by March 31; establishment of 1600 MW thermal power plant at Krishnapatnam; transforming AP into a logistic hub; construction of Polavaram project was going on fast pace; toll-free numbers set up for solving problems of government hostels and setting up of single desk for granting all permissions for new industries.
Earlier, the Governor took salute from contingents of CRPF, APSP, police brass band, National Cadet Corps (NCC), Bharat Scouts Guide, social welfare residential schools and youth Red Cross.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, his cabinet colleagues, Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao, Director General of Police J.V. Ramudu and senior officials attended the celebrations. Tableaux of various departments highlighted welfare and development schemes of the government. The tableau of urban development department highlighted the plans for new state capital being developed between Vijayawada and Guntur while that of planning department focused on ‘smart Andhra Pradesh’ initiative. The departments of fire services, agriculture, irrigation, education and Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) also had their tableaux. (NSS)
