AP Speaker to suspend 6 YSRCP MLAs
Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasad is likely to suspend six MLAs belonging to the only opposition party, YSRCP. Sources close to the Assembly secretariat revealed that the list has been prepared. It includes: Chevireddy Bhaskara Reddy, Ramakrishna Reddy, Jaggireddy, Srinivasulu, Siva Prasada Reddy and one more whose name was not available with the source. This decision was taken following the unruly behaviour of YSRCP MLAs who occupied the Speaker’s podium and did not allow the proceedings for three days. They indulged in sloganeering and throwing pieces of paper in the air. The Government Chief Whip Kalava Srinivasulu had released the video footage of the proceedings to the media. Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, AP Finance Minister in charge of legislative affairs, demanded that suitable action should be taken against the erring members.
The opposition did not allow the House to function in view of the NDA government denying special category status to AP as promised by former prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Minister for Information & Broadcasting M Venkaiah Naidu announced recently late in the evening that it is not possible for the Centre to give special status to AP or any other State.
The leader of the Opposition YS Jagan Mohan Reddy lambasted Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu for his failure to persuade the Centre to grant special status. He said special status would have brought a lot of benefits to AP. Industries would have come and employment opportunities would have increased, Jagan told the members.
Naidu had welcomed the decision of the Union government to give special assistance instead of special status. YSRCP, Left parties and the Congress described Naidu’s decision as betrayal of the people of AP.
