AP set to become aerospace hub
- Govt clears aerospace, defence parks in districts
Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh is set to become a major hub of aerospace technology. The State government would open aerospace parks in Ananthapur, Chittoor and Nellore districts as part of the plan.
The government has already formed a committee to promote aerospace development in the State. The committee, headed by Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, gave a presentation on the opportunities for investment in the State in aerospace and defence manufacturing.
The DRDO has already agreed to start its missile testing center at Orvakallu in Kurnool district. This would boost the defence manufacturing activity in the area. The neighbouring Anantapur district too is nominated for the defence manufacturing area. A defence systems integrated complex is set to come up in the district with investment from Bharat Electronics Limited. Vital Innovations City is also proposed in Palasamudram area, while Bharat Forge has proposed multi-model manufacturing facility in Gudipalli area.
In Visakhapatnam area, a world class air cargo facility is set to come up contributing to the development of the north coastal region. The United Shipbuilding Corporation would promote ship building activity in Visakhapantam for which the government has already signed MoUs.
In Krishna district, the BEL would establish night vision project unit at Machilipatnam, while a missile launch testing station is set to come up at Nagayalanka area. All these proposals are set to make the State a potential aerospace and defence manufacturing hub in the years to come.
