AP Mahila Congress To join Mass Hunger Strike At Ananthapur
Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh Mahila Congress would join the proposed mass hunger strike to be held at Ananthapur on March 25 against the prevailing drought conditions in Rayalaseema.
AP Mahila Congress president Sunkara Padmasri along with the party leaders released a wall-poster of the event ate Andhra Rathna Bhavan.
Speaking on the occasion, Padmasri came down heavily on the State government for its failure to handle the drought in the State. She took Minister for Agriculture Prathipati Pullarao to task holding him responsible for the drought in the State. She alleged that the Minister had totally failed to assess the drought and prevent migration of people for other States in search of work and wages.
She said that the State government had declared 301 mandals out of total 664 mandals drought hit, which shows the total failure of the government. She said that people across the State were purchasing drinking water much ahead of the summer. The government could not even provide drinking water to the people, she alleged and regretted that livestock too were suffering due to non-availability of drinking water.
Padmasri alleged that this government had declared 238 mandals drought hit in 2014-15 followed by 359 mandals in 2015-16 and 301 mandals in 2016-17, indicating that drought had been there right from the first year of this government. She alleged that drought and Chandrababu Naidu are twins and every time he comes to power, people and the State would suffer.
APCC general secretary Meesala Rajeswara Rao, spokesman V Gurunadham, AP Youth Congress leaders P Pradeep, P Nnncharaiah, city Mahila Congress president K Sri Lakshmi and others were present.
