AP Forming Task Force To Prevent Drug Peddling

Alarmed over reports of drug menace in the neighbouring State, Naidu Government is setting up an STF to nip the problem in the bud.

Visakhapatnam: Following the recent developments in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh Government is planning to constitute a Special Task Force to step up vigilance on drug trafficking.

The STF will comprise, among others, officials of Prohibition and Excise, Police and Drug Inspection departments.

Addressing media here on Sunday, State Human Resources Development Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said a decision to this effect has been taken by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

The government is also contemplating to make certain amendments to Andhra Pradesh Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Rules to give the law more teeth. A proposal to this effect will come up in the next Cabinet Meeting. Amendments will be made to ensure non-bailable warrants against drug peddlers.

Earlier on Sunday morning, Srinivasa Rao addressed a meeting with school and college managements, wherein he asked them to set up CCTV cameras at key locations on their premises to identify any illegal activities on their campuses.

Further, he advised managements of educational institutions to increase their security staff at entrances and other vital places. He asked parents and teachers to keep a wary eye on their children and notice any behavioural changes. This would help take timely ameliorative measures.
