Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party thanked the Central government for giving Cabinet approval for the special package announced for the State. Led by Ministers Kamineni Srinivasa Rao and P Manikyala Rao, the BJP leaders celebrated the occasion saying that the package would provide all the benefits that were expected to the State through the special category status. The BJP leaders said that special category status was not possible as the 14th Finance Commission had advised against continuation of the status.

The special package would bring more funds to the State with 90 per cent share from the Center for every project as given in the case of special category status. They said that the package would also mean that the Central government would share 90 per cent of the external aid that Andhra Pradesh government would take from various sources for its projects. These benefits were not extended to any State so far by the Central government, the Ministers claimed.

However, the BJP leadership had taken up the project and had cleared all the hurdles to make it a reality. The project started with the NDA government merging seven mandals from Telangana with the Andhra Pradesh to facilitate the AP government to begin the work. The Central government would provide 100 per cent funding for the Polavaram Project now, he said and thanked the Prime Minister for the gesture. He also thanked Venkaiah Naidu stating that the Union Minister had become an address to Andhra Pradesh in the national capital in taking up the issues concerning the State.
