AP Assembly Meets Amid Protest By YSR Congress MLAs
Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh Assembly on Tuesday passed the GST Bill with voice vote even as the Opposition YSR Congress legislators protested seeking discussion on the farmers’ issues. The YSR Congress which insisted on conduct of the Assembly for four days to discuss the farmers’ issues in the Business Advisory Committee meeting moved adjournment motion after Legislative Affairs Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu rejected the plea for extension of the Session. The Speaker too rejected the adjournment motion leading to commotion in the House. However, Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao, conducted the discussion on the GST Bill, which was later passed in voice vote.
The YSR Congress legislators recalled that the Telugu Desam Party had promised price stabilisation fund for the farmers during the 2014 elections. The price stabilisation fund was aimed at helping the farmers when the market price was low for the agriculture produce. They said that the government had not created the fund even after three years in power and even as the farmers were committing suicides.
