Another Congress MLC joins TDP in AP
Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh Congress party has lost yet another MLC, Mohmmad Jani, to the ruling Telugu Desam Party. Earlier this week, Congress MLC B Chengalrayudu switched sides. With Jani’s exit, on Saturday, the Congress strength in the AP Legislative Council has come down to five from seven.
Jani, a former Congress minister who represented the Guntur II Assembly segment, joined the TDP in the presence of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu along with a hundred supporters. He said he was attracted by the welfare measures that Chandrababu Naidu had initiated for the welfare of Muslim minorities.
TDP MPs Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, Minister Ravela Kishore Babu, TDP State president K Kalavenkata Rao, former minister Dokka Manikyavara Prasad, legislator T Sravan Kumar senior leaders LVSRK Prasad, Varla Ramaiah and several other senior leaders were present.
Welcoming Jani into the party fold, Chandrababu Naidu said the TDP was known for its initiatives for the development of Minorities right from its inception. He wanted the party leaders in Guntur district to work hard and strengthen the party in the district. He also directed them to ensure that the party would win all the Assembly seats in Guntur district in the next elections.
With Jani’s entry, the ruling party’s strength in the both Houses has increased to three from the Muslim minorities, who are now awaiting a berth in the State cabinet this time. The party now has Mohmmad Shariff and Mohmmad Jani from the Legislative Council and Jaleel Khan from the Assembly, who have set their eyes on a Cabinet berth. Until now there is no Minority community representation in the TDP Cabinet in the State as it had no Muslim legislators.
