Andhra Cricket Association’s Team Qualified For BCCI Tournament
Amaravati: The Andhra Under-23 Men team will meet Punjab in the finals of the Col. C K Nayudu Trophy Tournament to be held at Patiala from February 28 to March 4. This is the first time in the history of the Andhra Cricket Association that it’s men team qualifying for the final berth in BCCI conducted multiday tournaments.
“The performance of the team speaks volumes of the efforts put in by the team members and the support staff without whom this journey so far could not have been possible and ACA should finish it off with a glorious victory” said ACA president G V K Ranga Raju.
“The way ACA Under-23 performed so far brought stability to the Andhra cricket and this team will be a role model for others to excel and produce better results and I wish all the best and confident of winning the cup” said ACA general secretary Ch Arun Kumar.
Earlier, during 2005-06, Andhra U-19 men team lifted Vinoo Mankad Trophy which is Under-19 One day limited overs tournament for Men.
The women teams of ACA have already become Under-19 All India Champions during 2015-16 and All India Plate Champions in Senior Women during 2014-15.
The journey of the ACA Under-23 men team reaching finals is not a cake walk for the team. In the Elite Pool league matches in the first match ACA took first innings lead against Punjab, lost to Delhi and won outright against Madhya Pradesh and Railways and finished second in the Elite Pool –B Group.
In the quarter-finals, ACA beat Himachal Pradesh outright at Vizianagaram and in the semi-finals ACA beat Gujarat by an innings at Valsad and qualified for the finals. In all 21 players have participated in this tournament so far and everybody contributed their best for reaching the finals.
Exceptional performances came from M. Pranith (427 runs with a Double Century); G. Jayawardhan (290 runs with a Century); D. Harshavardhan Naidu (229 runs) and skipper B. Shivcharan Singh scored 197 runs with a match winnings 94 against Gujarat yesterday.
In the bowling department, Ch. Senha Kishore (21 wkts); A. Vinay Kumar (16 wkts); Y. Pruthiv Raj and V. Venu with 10 Wkts each were the main wicket takers in the tournament so far and outstanding performance both with bat and ball came from K.V. Sasikanth who scored 178 runs and claimed 33 wkts so far.
