Amma Wanted Me To Be CM: OPS
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam (OPS) who meekly submitted his resignation, has at last stared roaring. He questioned the unseemly hurry in making changes in the government. He declared that there is no question of giving up the posts given to him by late leader Jayalalithaa.
OPS created a commotion in the party by making serious allegations against party general secretary Sasikala Natarajan. He said he was not allowed to see Jayalalithaa at the hospital and only Sasikala was seeing the late leader. He said Amma (Jayalalithaa) wanted him to take over as chief minister. He said he is one hundred percent sure of the future course of action. Sasikala went to Marina beach to pay her respects to JJ. OPS sat at Jaya’s memorial for an hour last night.
All depends on the attitude of MLAs who are backing Sasikala as of Wednesday morning. One cannot say what kind of forces are working on the MLAs. The DMK, the opposition party, is short of 19 seats for a simple majority. If it can engineer defections from the AIADMK legislature party, the government would fall. TKS Elangovan, DMK leader, said as an opposition party the DMK would naturally like to take advantage of the rift in the ruling. He demanded imposition of president’s rule. The DMK has 89 MLAs and its ally Congress has eight seats in the present assembly. The ruling AIADMK has 135 MLAs. The situation suggests that there is a vertical split in the party following the revolt by OPS.
