Amit Shah To Replicate UP Formula In Telangana?

Amit Shah during his forthcoming visit to Telangana is likely to launch his UP election strategy of forging the BCs as a formidable force to sail with the BJP.

BJP National president Amit Shah’s proposed visit to Telangana from May 21 is significant in more ways than one. State unit has already stated that the visit would bring a sea-change in Telangana politics and announced that it would go alone in 2019 polls.

In an attempt to give a different direction and boost up the propects of the party, Mr Shah will explore ways to bring more sections into the party.

Party sources said the central leadership is keen to tap the strong BC vote bank that is rooted in Telangana.  Although many of the leaders have already been in TRS, BJP may look into weaning away the second and third rung leaders. Shah is planning to follow the same sort of social engineering  which he successfully implemented during UP elections, sources said.

Mr Shah’s gamble was formulated after Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao’s concerted effort to provide 12 percent reservations to minorities. BJP feels that BCs would get alienated from TRS if 12 percent reservations are provided to Muslims. “KCR might have thought of winning muslim vote bank keeping Hyderabad in mind, but across Telangana, he has to satisfy hundreds of backward communities. Even the muslim reservations too will not fructify” a senior BJP leader said.

Shah will initially look into the city of Hyderabad where in a large chunk of BC voters reside. BJP’s strategy appears to be weakening the Congress party further and relegate it to the third or fourth position. Congress was totally wiped out in the GHMC polls. BJP now eyes on whisking away few Congress strongemen that are left, unable to decide their future course of action. They include former ministers D Nagender, Mukhesh Kumar Goud and former MP Anjan Kumar Yadav. Amit Shah is planning to forge the Munnur Kapu-Yadav-Goud combination by taking all the three into the party, sources explained.  Kapus, Yadavs and Gouds are in good number in the city and with the likes of  Bandaru Dattatreya and K Lakshman, party will get strengthened further, BJP leadership hopes.

Danam Nagender has desparately tried to join TRS earlier and even met KCR a couple of times. But KCR is not keen to take him or Mukhesh as he felt that these three are “Udyama Drohulu” (anti-Telangana who worked against the statehood and interests of Telangana). They were even accused of trying for making Hyderabad a UT, thereby invited the wrath of TRS leadership.

Shah will also concentrate on the second rung BC leaders of all parties across the state. “Our effort is to strengthen the cadre and we will be a strong alternative to TRS” Dr K Laxman, chief of Telangana BJP unit said, indicating that they are out to entice the Congress lot.

The party is also trying to tap the TDP which has over 10 lakh committed cadre in the state. BJP understands that though TDP leaders left the party and joined TRS, the TDP cadre remained in tact at the grassroot level. So, now both BJP  and TRS are making plans to allure the TDP cadre as the party is facing leadership crisis. BJP may cite alliance with TDP in the neighbouring AP to win over the TDP cadre, it is said.

Shah appears to have full data on the social segments and he is expected to concentrate mainly on BC leaders of various hues and may go to the extent of  indicating even a BC candidate for the chief minister post in 2019 polls, party insiders say.  BJP’s policy is not announcing CM candidate before the polls. So, Shah may drop enough hints in this regard, it is said. But this will take some more time, insiders added.
