Srinagar: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has told the media conference here that the government would try to find an alternative to the Pellet Guns in Kashmir. Rajnath Singh and J&K Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti addressed a joint media conference at the end of the two-day visit of the Union Home Minister.
Mehabooba Mufti said 85 per cent of the people of Kashmir want peace and harmony. Only five per cent are creating trouble. She alleged that the separatists and militants are using the youth as shield.
Rajnath said he was extremely sad about the situation in Kashmir. He appealed to the people of Kashmir not to play with the future of the children. He reiterated that the youth in Kashmir should have pens, books and computers in their hand and not stones. He said the government had asked the security personnel to be extra careful. He said he is prepared to meet anyone in the ambit of kashmiriat, jamhuriat (democracy) and insaniat (humanity).
Mehabooba recalled that there was a valid reason behind the violent turn of events in 2010 and it was a fake encounter. What is happening now is different. She asked the media persons not compare 2010 and 2016.
The Home Minister has announced that an all party delegation will be visiting valley soon. He said in the violence followed by the encounter of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Burhan Wani 69 people were killed and about a thousand injured.
The joint media conference ended abruptly when Mehabooba rose up. She lost her cool when a corresponded asked her if she had swapped roles with Omar Abdulla, the Opposition leader. In 2010 Omar was the Chief Minister and Mehabooba was the leader of PDF which was extremely critical of the government. She used to visit the families of the youth who were killed in police firing.
