Akhilesh ups the ante by sacking Shivpal, 4 others
Lucknow: In a determined show of authority over the Samajwadi Party and the government, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday sacked the so-called ‘shadow chief minister’ and his own uncle Shivpal Yadav from the cabinet along with four other ministers. They are known to be close followers of Amar Singh, who was recently appointed as SP’s National General Secretary by Mulayam Singh Yadav.
The other ministers said to have been sacked are: Om Prakash Singh, Narendra Rai, Shadeb Fatim and Balram Yadav. Shivpal Yadav, who was holding some key portfolios when he was first fired, was taken back into the Cabinet by Akhilesh after a truce had been worked out by Mulayam in the raging internal family feud.
Sunday’s action has not come as a surprise. Akhilesh has recently issued a warning that there is no place in the Cabinet or any post in the government for all those leaders who are known to be followers of Amar Singh. The political drama-cum-family feud that has been brewing for long came into open with Mulayam replacing Akhilesh with Shivpal as UP Samajwadi Party chief.
Thus two groups have emerged in the continuing fight for power and supremacy within the Samajwadi Party: One led by Akhilesh with his cousin Ramgopal Yadav and the other led by Amar Singh and Shivpal and supported by Mulayam.
