Akhilesh Stages A Coup, Declares Himself Party Chief
Lucknow: In an unexpected turn of events, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav declared himself as the national president of Samajwadi Party. In a meeting attended by about 5,000 party leaders here on Sunday, Akhilesh reiterated that he has a lot of respect for his father and he had to take this decision to protect the party from evil forces. He was indirectly referring to his uncle shiv pal Yadav and fixer Amar Singh. Ram Gopal Yadav, another uncle of Akhilesh, read out two resolutions which were unanimously passed by the meeting. One of them said shiv pal Yadav has to be divested of the post of the president party’s UP unit. The other called for expulsion of Amar Singh from the party. Akhilesh said he would make Netaji proud by winning the ensuing elections and retaining power. Akhilesh had turned the tables on his father and his supporters in a bold move.
Mulayam Singh and his younger brother shiv pal had met on Sunday morning and reviewed the situation. Mulayam Singh described the meeting organised by Akhilesh as illegal and anti- party.
