- Dinesh Kumar to be CS from April
Amaravati: Seniority prevailed in the appointment of the Chief Secretary for Andhra Pradesh with Chief Minister finally clearing the name of Ajay Kallam, who takes over from C S Tucker retiring on February 28. Kallam will serve as CS for the Month of March as he is scheduled to retire on March 31. Though the State government tried to get extension for Kallam from the central government, it could not succeed. At one point of time, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu wanted to clear the name of Dinesh Kumar as Chief Secretary skipping Kallam as he had only one month service and the Center had not cleared the proposal for extension.
However, seniority prevailed over Chief Minister’s selection of the CS and Kallam ws finally named to serve as CS for the shortest period. He would assume on March 1 and retire on March 31, leaving the post to Dinesh Kumar to succeed.
Kallam as principle secretary in finance and energy departments, besides the Capital Region Development Authority, had created history by keeping the power sector atop in the country and winning awards for the State from the Central government. It was for his meritorious services that Chief Minister wanted Kallam to be the CS with term extended by the Central government. Though the Central government failed to give extension to Kallam, the Chief Minister said that the senior IAS officer would serve as the CS till his retirement.
