Opposition padayatras for political survival: Pocharam
Hyderabad: The Telangana Government paid 75 per cent of crop loans so far and it was ready to release the rest on time, Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy said on Monday.
Talking to media persons here, Pocharam charged that the “lopsided” policies of the previous governments led to suicides by farmers. He slammed the Congress and the TDP for taking up pada yatras to gain political mileage. The minister claimed that suicides by the farmers have come down drastically during the TRS regime due to the welfare steps, such as releasing crop loan waiver funds, taken by the government, he said.
These two parties are holding protests not for the cause of farmers or people, the minister said, but for their own sake. Political tours by Congress and TDP will not fructify as the people are not ready to believe their fictitious stories, the minister noted. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was trying his best to address the farmers’ woes, he said, adding through completion of the projects, the government plans to irrigate one crore acres over the next five years.
The State government will offer all support to the farmers to store their produce in warehouses and sell the same when they get remunerative price in the markets.
He claimed that 10,000 and 12,000 farmers in Telugu Desam and Congress regimes respectively committed suicides. The TDP has no right to talk about the farmers issues as the Andhra Pradesh Government failed to clear 45 per cent of crop loans. The TRS Government filed cases against the managing directors of cotton companies for supplying non-standard seeds.
