After ‘2 medal’ Rio show, PM announces task force for next Olympics
New Delhi: Against the backdrop of under performance in Rio Olympics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced the decision to set up a Task Force to prepare a comprehensive action plan for effective participation in the next three Olympics.
The aim of the task force, which Modi said would be set up in the next few days, would be to prepare a strategy for improvement of facilities, spell out selection norms and better training facilities, and would comprise of both in-house and foreign experts.
In Rio Olympics the country won only one Silver and one Bronze even after sending its biggest contingent of 117 athletes.
India finished 67th in the medal tally.
The next Olympic Games will be held in Tokyo in 2020.
