A Suspect Under Custody in New York Bombings
New York: Ahmad Khan Rahami is under custody in the case of bombings at Chelsea, New York, where 26 people were injured. Rahami, 28, is a New Jersey resident, and he is a naturalized US citizen from Afghanistan. Police believe that he is the man seen in the separate surveillance videos carrying pressure cooker bomb.
“Based on the information, we have every reason to believe that this is an act of terror,” said New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.
“Even though one suspect is arrested, you will see strong NYPD presence over the next 24 hours,” de Blasio said. Police want the people to be vigilant, he said. Blasio also said that Obama had wanted him to say that he had appreciated the resilience of the New Yorkers.
Presidential candidate Trump talking in a Fox News program earlier this morning said that the “local police know who these people are… but they don’t want to be accused of profiling.”
“We are trying to be so politically correct in our country,” he said. Trump’s opposition candidate Hillary Clinton also responded to the weekend bombing. “Americans will not cower. We will prevail,” she said. “We will defeat the evil-twisted ideology.” “Intelligence surge,” she said, is necessary to prevent the terror.
Responding to the Trump’s comments on the bombings she urged New Yorkers not to get distracted by the anti-refugee rhetoric of the opposition.
