8 injured in Shopian grenade attack

Even as the operation to flush out gunmen holed up in the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) building in Pampore on the outskirts of Srinagar was continuing on Tuesday, some people hurled a grenade at a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) convoy in Shopian district on Tuesday.

Three CRPF men and five civilians were reported to have injured in the attack. Meanwhile, a soldier was reported to have hurt in exchange of fire between security forces and militants hiding in the EDI complex. An Army official said that a fresh offensive was launched on Tuesday morning to ferret out the militants.

Reports emanating from the Valley said at least 250 militants belonging to three Pakistan-based terror groups were active in the area.
