653 Cr for Palle Pragathi: KTR

Hyderabad, December 26: Promising to provide ample scope for rural development through employment opportunities, a facelift of villages with basic amenities, Panchayati Raj Minister KT Rama Rao today stated that Rs 653 crore will be spent for implementation of “Palle Pragathi” scheme to be launched soon.
During a review meeting at Camp office with SERP officials concerned here, KTR said that an agreement has been reached with the World Bank which would fund Rs 450 crore, while the state government will share Rs 203 crore for the scheme. Now that the World Bank has given its nod for the funding, the state government will share its money for rapid rural development. As many as 75 lakh people (including 13.17 SCs and 16.43 lakh STs will benefit) and 150 backward Mandals will be developed under the programme. He said that eligible women will be entrusted with the task of managing 1000 comprehensive service centers with kiosks to disburse all types of financial benefits to beneficiaries.
The program is aimed at simultaneous development of villages, he said. KTR said that focus will be shifted to women empowerment, increasing human development index, direct money transfer, employment guarantee and payment of pensions will be done through the kiosks, he said. He also said that they will focus on providing employment opportunities, nutritious food to women and children, minimum support price to agricultural produce, financial assistance for sheep, goats and dairy development, rural outlets for marketing facility and cooperatives for farmers and ensure rapid development. Arrangements would also be done to receive complaints and different types of applications from the people at these centres, he said.
