5-run penalty for India at Indore
Indore: In a rare occurrence, India was penalized five runs after two warnings to Jadeja for running on the pitch while batting in first innings on Day 2 of the final Test match against New Zealand at the Holker Stadium in Indore.
India declared their first innings at 557 for five. This penalty was given at the penultimate over of India’s first innings. As a result of the penalty, New Zealand started their innings at 5 runs without loss of wicket.
If a batsmen runs on the wicket while taking a run, it makes pitch rough and gives advantage to the spin bowlers. At the end of day two, lot of rough areas on the pitch were noticed and this is very encouraging for Indian spin duo, Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.
