45 “Captive Surrogate” Mothers Rescued By Hyderabad Police from An Infertility Centre

As per an official there was no permission for the hospital to double up a surrogate clinic.

Hyderabad: Around 45 Women who were confined at infertility centre ay posh Banjara Hulls in the city were rescued by Hyderabad Central Zone Task force on Saturday night.

Mothers, who are being confined in the building for ‘Diet’ and ’Observation’ at Sai Kiran Infertility centre located at Road No 14, Banjara Hills, were found when police raided.

These mothers were provided with food, medicine and monthly allowance of ₹ 10,000 are confined for nine months on two floors of the hospital.

Police sized records and incriminating material from the hospital. These women were paid only ₹ 3 lakhs after delivery while the brokers and hospital staff collected ₹ 30 to ₹ 40 lakhs from the clients. Most women are from Nagaland district , Telangana, and some places from Andhra Pradesh and also from Delhi.

“No permission was taken to double up surrogate clinic. Infertility centre was not registered. They registered under Preconception and prenatal diagnostic act. Without following the guidelines of Health department, they are running the centre,” said Dr Padmaja, District Medical Officer.
