26 Jawans Killed In Maoist Ambush
Sukma( Chhattisgarh): In a major ambush by Naxalites 26 CRPF jawans were killed in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh on Monday.
The encounter between the armed forces and Maoists occurred around 12.25 pm in Kalapathar area. It is also learnt that seven more jawans were injured in the incidents.
The news that the Naxals carried away the ammunition of the security forces is a matter of concern.
The police officials claimed that the Maoists started firing on the CRPF jawans who were patrolling in the region. All the jawans belonged to 74 Battalion.
The officials immediately rushed to the spot and evacuated the injured in a helicopter. The police have intensified their search for the Maoists.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh, cutting short his Delhi trip, rushed to the State and called for an emergency meeting with senior officials.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh had a huddle with the top officials to review the situation. Later Home Secretary chaired a review meeting. Rajnath Singh said he was pained by killing of jawans. He said their sacrifices would never be forgotten by society. He said the cowardly act of Naxals would be viewed seriously. A company commander is there among the seven persons missing. About 300 Naxals attacked the CRPF camp. There were only 150 jawans. DG, CRPF, is on his way to the spot of the attack. Union Home Minister will be visiting the place of the incident on Tuesday.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi condemned the attack calling it a mindless strike. She said the death of jawans is a great loss to the country.
