Mancherial:  A conman was arrested along with 15 of his hirelings on Thursday night after those swindled by him approached the Mancherial Police.

According to police, Kommureddy Mallareddy of Chandaram village in Laksettipet mandal of Mancherial district collected Rs. 63 lakhs from six people belonging to his and surrounding villages on the pretext of getting them sand contracts. He claimed that he had contacts with the ruling party legislators. Mallareddy took them around certain sand reaches but did not provide them any contracts. The lenders suspected foul when even after a long time had passed, he kept giving them one or another excuse whenever they questioned him about the contracts.

It is stated Mallareddy returned Rs. 19 lakhs four months ago. When lenders persisted for the remaining amount, he called them to the Mancherial R&B Guest House on Thursday. When they reached there, Mallareddy and 15 of his henchmen abused and beat them up. Mallareddy then pulled out a revolver and warned they would be killed if they again asked for money.

As a last resort, those beaten approached the Mancherial Police through a local leader. The police made enquiries and the same night cordoned off the lodge, where Mallareddy and his hirelings were staying. All the accused were arrested. A revolver, 15 bullets and three vehicles belonging to the accused were seized.

Mallareddy was found to have worked for a TV channel and had cheated others too, claiming proximity not only to ruling TRS legislators but also the first family. A case has been registered against him and the other accused.
