16 Amarnath Pilgrims Killed As Bus Plunges Into Valley At Pahalgam

New Delhi: Sixteen Amarnath pilgrims were killed and 26 others grievously injured when a bus they were travelling in plunged into a gorge on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway on Sunday afternoon.
About 43 passengers were said to be in the bus when it met with the accident at Banihal police located just 100 km away from the Pahalgam base camp. The bus bearing registration number JK02V 0594 was proceeding to Srinagar. As one of the tyres burst, the bus swerved off the road and eventually rolled down into the valley, according to reports.
According to a senior police officer, sixteen pilgrims were killed on the spot while 26 were seriously injured. Five of the injured were rushed to Srinagar, 19 were airlifted to Jammu Government Medical College Super Speciality Hospital and two were sent to a government hospital at Banihal for treatment.
Most of the pilgrims were said to be from Bihar and Rajasthan Army launched rescue operations joined by State police and paramilitary forces.
