Over 11,897 Sign On Organ Donation Forms In An Hour, Create Record
Vijayawada: Donating an organ to some unknown person is the greatest charity one can ever do. Though nobody expects one to do that when the person is alive, donating them after death is a great contribution to humanity. Realising the nobility of the cause, residents of Narasaraopet town in Andhra Pradesh created Guinness world record. Over 11,897 people signed on organ donation forms in an hour.
This event took place on the occasion of Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kodela Siva Prasad Rao’s 70th birthday. His followers came forward to sign up for a cause and signed the forms agreeing to donate their organs.
Before this Coimbatore held the record with 6,697 people signing the agreement forms for organ donation in 60 minutes.
The proceedings were recorded by Guinness Book Representative Swapni. She verified and declared that it was a new world record. The certificate of the record was handed over to Speaker Kodela Siva Prasad Rao.
The event started at 10.47 am and ended at 11.47 am at Kodela Siva Prasad Stadium. While Kodela signed the first form, his followers signed them later.
Expressing happiness at over thousand people coming forward to donate their organs on his birthday, Kodela said that organ donation was a noble cause. He hoped that this programme would not lose the pace and give new lease of life to thousands of people in need.
